How to Find Your Signature Look
By Sara Antonuccio
You want to be one of “those” people. You know the type, the ones who always look put together, but unique, like someone designed their wardrobe specifically for them. They just seem more confident, sophisticated, and on top of life, all because they’ve managed to nail their signature look. You can be one of those people, too! Here’s how:
Find Inspiration Online
We have access to a vast database of fashion inspiration online in the form of sites like Pinterest, images on Google, and the thousands of fashion blogs that are out there. It’s almost overwhelming, so start simple. Put together a Pinterest board of outfits that you like, or read a few articles about fashion trends and celebrity styles. Speaking of which...
Choose a Celebrity Muse
Is there a celebrity out there whose wardrobe you’d pay good money to raid? Take cues from them. How do they match their best pieces? What is it about their style that you like? How would you describe their style: bohemian, sophisticated, vintage, etc. Whoever you choose as your muse and whatever their style, try to recreate it with your own wardrobe.
Pick Your Signature Piece
Unless you hate everything in your closet, there must be one standout piece that you love, something that you would wear every day if you could (and maybe you do!). Is it a pair of pants that hug your body in all the right places? Is it a blazer that makes you feel powerful? Find that signature piece that you already own, and build off of it.
Put Together Your Ideal Outfit
Think about how you want to look and feel on a daily basis, and then go create the outfit that ticks all those boxes. If you don’t have the pieces you need, it’s time to go shopping! Head to a store and take advantage of the options to put together your ideal outfit. Use the inspirational images you found or your celebrity muse to guide your choices, and create at least one look that says everything you want to say.
Find Your Body Type
Part of creating a signature look is knowing what looks good on you. Whether you’re petite, have a long torso, lots of curves, broad shoulders, or have any other aspect of your body shape that makes shopping more difficult, identify it and embrace it. Instead of working against your body, make your clothes work with it. Know what accentuates your best features, and what doesn’t.
There’s a lot of trial and error involved in creating a signature look, but the results are well worth the effort. Instead of staring at your closet wondering what to wear every day, you’ll have a go-to look that brings out the best in you and makes you feel like you could take on the world!
